Acupuncture

Acupuncture treatment begins with an extensive intake and health history to create an individual diagnosis for each person. Unlike other forms of medical care, a certain symptom does not always equal the same diagnosis and the entire picture of lifestyle, diet, physical, and mental health are all taken into consideration. After a diagnosis is reached, very fine, single use, sterile needles are inserted into the skin at strategic points. These points may be in the affected area, but could also be located on other areas of the body.

In Chinese medicine it is said that where there is pain, there is stagnation. By inserting needles into specific points based on each person’s diagnosis, it helps to relieve this stagnation and therefore restore balance in the body. Acupuncture has been shown to release endorphins and impact the nervous system, enabling it to be effective in helping to manage many conditions such as stress and anxiety, musculoskeletal pain, chronic illness and inflammation, digestive issues, menstrual regulation, headaches, and more

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine works with your TCM diagnosis to create a personalized herbal formula just for you. Many of the herbs are familiar food grade items such as cinnamon, dates, berries, and flowers. Depending on your preferences you may be given raw herbs to cook into tea at home, powdered herbs, or capsules.

Cupping

Cupping is a therapy where glass cups are suctioned to the skin using heat. The heat does not touch the skin or cause discomfort and is only used as a way to create a vacuum effect within the cup. Most often this technique is used on the back and shoulders but can be done on other areas of the body. Once the cups are in place they may be left in a stationary position, or herbal oils can be applied to move the cups over the skin (slide cupping). After cupping there may be circular marks or slight bruising around the area. This is because the action of cupping breaks up and draws stagnant blood to the surface and improves circulation. Results will vary dependent on each person, but any marks fade within several days.

Cupping therapy can be beneficial for those suffering with musculoskeletal complaints, but can also be used for other symptoms such as respiratory disorders, skin issues, and to improve circulation.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha, which roughly translates to scraping, is a similar technique to cupping. Traditionally a Chinese soup spoon is used, but there are many stones and ceramic tools designed specifically for this purpose. Oil or other lubricant is applied to the affected area and then the tool of choice is used to lightly scrape the skin. This will produce redness and small petechia known as “sha” where there is stagnant blood or tightness within the body. Just like cupping, this can help to improve blood flow and circulation, reduce wrinkles and improve skin, increase lymphatic drainage, and release tension within the fascia and muscles.

Tui Na

Tui Na is a form of Chinese medical massage used in conjunction with other treatments to relieve musculoskeletal pain.

Eastern Dietary Therapy

Dietary therapy is an integral part of holistic health. This can be an effective tool on its own or alongside acupuncture and other treatments. An extensive intake will be done to assess health and current dietary habits, resulting in a Chinese medicine diagnosis.

In Chinese medicine all food items have their own energetic properties. Based on your diagnosis a dietary plan can be made to help to promote immune system health and re-balance your system.
